A Community with Hearts of Gold!

The McPhail home was not worth repairing, so in the typical “Ty Pennington” Extreme Makeover fashion -it was demolished and a brand new home was underway in no-time-flat.
Around 2,800 skilled and unskilled volunteers from all over the Region helped to build the home. By the time it was over around 6,000 people helped put it all together. (Editors Note: Several volunteers from the local homeless community came to help! Now that is what I call the heart of giving!)
Hundreds of Local and Regional business donated materials, labor, supplies, furniture, and more for the build, as well as meals, food, water, massage therapy, medical help and transportation for the crew & spectators. Local business and big hearted community members also donated thousands of dollars to be put into a trust fund for the family to help them pay for the projected increase in property taxes and future needs.
Rush Behnke, president of Ark Built Renovations and the lead Contractor on the project said it took around 130 hours to build the home from the ground up. The build began Sept 7th and crews worked around the clock, 24-7. "We went and and knocked this thing out of the park," said Behnke.
9/11/11 - Day 4 - You could see the flags flying from the base of the hill all the way up to the build site. Workers and TV Crew gathered in front of the home to observe a tragic day in American history with a prayer and a moment of silence. What a wonderful community we live in!
RVTD (Rogue Valley Transit District) provided free bus shuttle services for Spectators to and from the site which allowed them to watch the progress from a special viewing area from 8 a.m. to 8 pm. All Volunteers were shuttled to and from the site via RVTD buses which ran non-stop during the whole building project.
Spectators were encouraged to bring cans of non-perishable food with them on the shuttle with drop off locations at the job site to benefit the ACCESS Food Share Pantry Network in Jackson County. Workers & Volunteers brought food, too! At last count the community donated 3824 pounds of food!
